Obituary

Ronda May McCoy Talley, 86, of Bowling Green, died Saturday, August 4, 2018, at her residence. She was a native of Burkesville, KY, and the youngest daughter of the late Jim F. “Leck” McCoy and Vela Booher McCoy. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Howard Talley, of Hopkins County, KY. Ronda is a member of Christ Church United Methodist in Louisville, KY. She is a retired teacher, starting her teaching career in the Hardin County Public Schools, then moving to the Elizabethtown City Schools and Ft. Knox Dependent Schools, and ending her teaching career at the Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, where she and Jack lived for 51 years.
Ms. Talley received the Diploma from the Bowling Green Business University in August 1955, the BS in Elementary Education from WKU in 1956, and the Master’s Degree in Education from WKU in 1973. She earned the Rank I Education Certificate from the KY Department of Education. While attending the BU, she was a member of Kappa Beta Sorority, was voted Phi Tau Nu Fraternity’s “Dream Girl,” and was recognized as “Most Versatile Girl” in her graduating class. Ms. Talley was a gifted teacher and was known for her ability to teach children who others found to be “unteachable”.
Ms. Talley was very musical and loved to sing in her lovely alto voice. She played the piano, the clarinet, and the accordion. She was known as a person who was loved by everyone who met her and was admired for her generous spirit, her beauty, and her grace. She was a rare beauty in every sense of the word.
Ronda is survived by her daughter, Dr. Ronda Carol Talley, WKU Professor of Psychology, Bowling Green; two sisters, Hazel McCoy Sharp (Paulie), Bowling Green; Julia McCoy Goff (Myron), Fairview, TX; three nieces, Sharon Sharp Valk, Bowling Green; Linda Talley Sandidge, Madisonville; and Donna Talley Boyd, Louisville; and four nephews, Larry Sharp, Bowling Green; Joseph McCoy Goff, Fairview; Jim Goff, Dallas; and Roger Talley, Nashville.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2018, at State Street United Methodist Church, Bowling Green, Kentucky. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. A graveside service and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. Her family and friends in Louisville are invited to attend the burial service and can meet at the Broadway entrance of Cave Hill Cemetery, 701 Baxter Ave at 10:45 AM (EST) on Saturday. Arrangements have been entrusted to J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
