Robert (Bob) Schermack, age 102, of Bowling Green, Kentucky died on November 7, 2017, at Scandinavian Home in Cranston, RI. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 15, 1915 to Alfred and Grace Schermack, and is predeceased by his sister Florence, brother Alfred, and his beloved wife of 71 years, Annie. He is survived by his three children: daughters Ellen Vowells (Sam), Barbara Schermack (Michael Moore), and son Robert Schermack, Jr.; grandchildren: Christopher Vowells (Karen), Caitlin Moore and Benjamin Schermack-Moore; and four great-grandchildren: Sean, Mary Kate, Grace, and Kiera.

His was a family of inventors who founded the Schermack Stamp Machine Company in Detroit. They were pioneers in the vending and automation industries and produced the first coil stamps and postage stamp machines, as well as the first “talking” vending machines.

Bob also lived in Evansville, IN and Mammoth Cave, Kentucky and was an avid golfer, photographer, and sports enthusiast. He worked in the defense industry during World War II, then for Curtis Publishing Company, and later as a furniture manufacturer’s representative. After his retirement, he worked as a teacher’s assistant at Warren Elementary School. He had a charisma and a unique charm that drew people to him throughout his long life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 8, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 1215 State St., Bowling Green, with visitation on Thursday, December 7 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel, 832 Broadway Avenue, Bowling Green, Kentucky 42101. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
