He was born December 16, 1951 in Bowling Green to the late Jimmy D. Miller, Sr. and Zelma Belk Miller. At a young age J.D. was fascinated with trucks (big rigs). He became a truck driver and travelled the country for over 40 years. He became known by fellow drivers as "Shotgun".

On July 26, 1998 J.D. married his best friend, Virginia 'Ginny' Pilcher, who remained by his side until his departure. During their years together, they traveled the country, making memories across the miles. J.D. was a dedicated father first and especially loved his role as Papaw. He was filled with unconditional love and his family was blessed to have him.
